NPT quoted in SAF Investor on airport expansion and the role of SAF
SAF Investor debates Heathrow’s expansion as noted in the Chancellor’s speech last week and the consequence of more flights and more emissions. Editor, Fayaz Hussain discusses how the UK Government is centred on SAF and investment into the industry and growing the aviation sector.
Nova Pangaea Technologies contributed to this piece with Sarah Ellerby, CEO, saying:
“With SAF mandates becoming law, as we saw on 1st of January 2025, aviation decarbonisation has to happen. If airports are expanding, there will further demand for SAF to deliver on the laws and mandates, as this is the most viable route to airline emission reduction. Therefore, SAF has huge role to play and it can only be delivered through various technology solutions.”
UK Government has committed to a further £63m towards the Advanced Fuels Fund over the next year and gave details of the Revenue Certainty Mechanism. Therefore, highlighting the importance of SAF in aviation decarbonisation and the encouragement of investment in this industry. Clean technologies and their varied pathways are vital to unlock SAF production in the UK and globally. Air travel and airport presence, new or expansions, are not going to decrease over time as demand for this mode of transport continues to grow but emissions reductions have to be addressed in line with SAF mandates and law. The need is to address climate change and ensure a sustainable future.
