NPT CEO discusses government industrial strategy on BBC Radio 5 Live
BBC Radio Five Live invited Sarah Ellerby, NPT CEO, back on the programme Wake up to Money to revisit the government’s Industrial Strategy green paper, which is expected to be brought forward and issued in the next few weeks.
Host Sean Farrington wanted to know what the industrial strategy might hold and mean for NPT, as one of the eight growth-driving sectors identified in the strategy is Clean Energy Industries. Sarah spoke of the importance of any industrial strategy but her ask was on how it would be implemented and what was the plan for creating and revitalising existing regional industrial hubs such as Teesside where NPT is based, and also for example Grangemouth in Scotland. These regions offer the infrastructure to go beyond emissions reduction, transforming into centres for upskilling, reskilling, and mitigating job losses, whilst driving regional and national economic growth.
Sarah also stressed that achieving decarbonisation targets and delivering meaningful emissions reduction requires a robust, well-supported pathway backed by investment from the government, private sector and industry. Therefore, ensuring scale-up capital for companies such as NPT to progress, deliver on the government ask of SAF plants and ensure the decarbonisation agendas of government and industry are met transitioning away from fossil-based fuels and products. Therefore, addressing climate change and ensuring a sustainable future.
