Simon Wright

Manufacturing and Operations Manager

“I really enjoy my role, and it is nice to have my skills put to good use alongside the trust placed in me. I joined NPT because of its sustainable practices to seek ways to replace fossil-based fuels and I am drawn to the company’s innovative approach to achieve this end result.”

Simon joined NPT in 2024 with a 26-year career history in the industrial sector. He started in quality assurance in a laboratory environment and upheld rigorous standards of product quality. He then transitioned into process operations and managed intricate systems with precision. He was Head of Operations in his most recent role and brings to NPT an extensive skill set coupled with industry knowledge.

“I am usually on the plant floor in a hard hat and safety shoes, and I would not have it any other way! Being part of NPT is very family orientated and we share a common purpose with our endeavours to help deliver decarbonisation solutions. I enjoy project management because I have a chance to utilise my expertise in a stimulating environment. It allows critical thinking, adaptability, efficient practice use and varied scope.”

Jo came to NPT in 2024 and is highly skilled in complex project delivery with high attention to detail. She holds Good Manufacturing Practices validation and has an extensive background in project management across sectors including in pharmaceutical construction and engineering (process and civil), facility expansion, and new product introduction.

Tom Nicol

Senior Research Scientist

“Working with NPT for the last 4 years has been a rewarding and engaging challenge which has allowed me to support the progress of novel sustainable technologies that will drive the UK’s clean fuel transition. Non-fossil derived chemicals and fuels are critical in the coming decades and the research work I do with NPT is helping to enable their development at an industrial scale.”

Tom joined NPT in 2020 and is engaged in several projects with the technical team. Tom conducts both internal and external research with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists. His specialty revolves around the conversion, extraction and utilisation of products from lignocellulosic biomass, and he works on laboratory, pilot, and pre-commercial scale process development through both theoretical, computational, and statistically designed experimental research. These have included mass balance and life cycle analyses of the process.

Caroline Stewart

Financial Controller

“I wanted to support a company with a distinctive technology which can make a positive contribution climate change. The finance team gets teased for holding the purse strings, but we all combine hard work with a fun environment. It is a really nice atmosphere at NPT and I am enjoying my role and being surrounded by such talented colleagues.”

Caroline, a qualified accountant, brings to NPT many years of experience in financial accounting, fiscal compliance, process design and management accounting. Having worked in a number of business sectors in SME and large corporate organisations, both in the North-East of England and internationally, Caroline’s expertise has been highly beneficial to NPT and the finance department.

Martin Fisher

Quality and Sustainability Manager

“I am really happy to be here at NPT and be part of its exciting journey. I have been warmly welcomed and enjoy putting my knowledge and expertise to use in this distinctive role. The company ethos and offering are centred around sustainability and I am glad to help take this forward.” 

Martin has over 20 years’ industry experience in petrochemical, chemical and renewables. His expertise includes quality and analytical methodologies, process and operations optimisation and efficiency, including plant management. Martin was in a dedicated Quality and Analytical Manager role for over 16 years. 

Paula Kuchcik

Laboratory Technician

“My background is in forensic science and I really like the elements of techniques, critical analysis and precision which allows me to do key work with samples on the plant floor and in the laboratory. No day is the same for me and I enjoy the variety and responsibility. I move around the site with times at my desk recording my findings to being in a hard hat and safety boots on the demonstration plant floor to managing the laboratory.” 

Paula came to NPT as an apprentice and excelled in her work gaining a permanent position as a laboratory technician. She puts her scientific and methodology expertise to good use at NPT and brings with her extensive research and analytical skills. Paula analyses samples for the demonstration plant and is involved in analytical method development which leads to standard operating procedures for the laboratory. She is responsible for the administration and maintenance of the laboratory and its equipment and oversees purchasing and inventory.
